Blue Ribbon Awareness Campaign ~ What is it?

Posted in Blue Ribbon Against Child Abuse with tags on August 31, 2009 by Donnette E Davis

Blue Ribbon Awareness Campaign.

You can help support agencies like Cardinal McCloskey Services – directing your gifts to our programs working directly with parents in their homes to teach them new behaviors, new discipline techniques and new ways to confront their own emotional scars from the abuse they suffered as children. Or, you can direct your gift to helping abused children recover from their abuse through foster care programs, counseling programs and after-care programs.

Support Blue Ribbon … National Child Protection Week ~ Note DISTURBING PICTURES

Posted in Blue Ribbon Against Child Abuse, donnette e davis with tags on August 31, 2009 by Donnette E Davis

I don’t apologise for posting this ….MONSTERS walk amongst us…..

It’s funny how everyone knows when it’s ‘show your cleavage day’ but few are aware its National Child Protection week………………Make a difference.

My name is Sarah
I am but three,
my eyes are swollen
I cannot see.

I must be stupid,
I must be bad,
what else could have made
my daddy
so mad?

I wish I were better,
I wish I weren’t ugly,

then maybe my Mommy
would still want to hug me.

I can’t speak at all,
I can’t do a wrong
or else I’m locked up
all the day long.

When I awake I’m all alone
the house is dark
my folks aren’t home.

When my Mommy does come
I’ll try and be nice,

so maybe I’ll get just
one whipping tonight.

Don’t make a sound!
I just heard a car
my daddy is back
from Charlie’s Bar.

I hear him curse
my name he calls
I press myself
against the wall.

I try and hide
from his evil eyes
I’m so afraid now
I’m starting to cry.

He finds me weeping
he shouts ugly words,
he says its my fault

that he suffers at work.

He slaps me and hits me
and yells at me more,
I finally get free
and I run for the door.

He’s already locked it
and I start to bawl,
he takes me and throws me
against the hard wall.

I fall to the floor
with my bones nearly broken,
and my daddy continues
with more bad words spoken.

‘I’m sorry!’ I scream
but its now much too late
his face has been twisted
into unimaginable hate.

The hurt and the pain
again and again
oh please God, have mercy!
oh please let it end!

And he finally stops
and heads for the door,
while I lay there motionless
sprawled on the floor.

My name is Sarah
and I am but three,
tonight my daddy
murdered me.

There are thousands of kids out there just like Sarah. And you can help

It sickens me to read this and view these images.  It will disturb even the toughest of the tough! And because you are affected, do something about it!! So all I am asking you to do is take some time to acknowledge that this stuff does happen, it is real, and that people like her dad do live in our society, and pray for child abuse to wither out and die, but also pray for the safety of our youth.

Please pass this poem on as a Blue Ribbon Against Child Abuse because, as crazy as it might sound, it might just indirectly change a life.

Squidoo RocketMoms ~ Milestone :)

Posted in donnette e davis with tags , , , , on August 30, 2009 by Donnette E Davis

Despite moving house, no internet forever, internet downtime and power outages I have now created 50 lenses. YAY!! *MILESTONE CELEBRATION*

The last few were probably the ones I really enjoyed the most.

I need to thank my dear online friends, in RocketMoms, Twitter, Squidoo & Facebook ~ ALL Rocket Moms ~ for inspiration ~ so thank you so much.

All are Non-profits and I have also set up a store at Café Press called Outreach Africa. I just have to get replies as to how to link it to the chosen organisations, alternatively the sales from the store will be donated to one or other. 🙂 Very proud 🙂

The new ones are (meningitis awareness) (Bipolar) (AIDS Orphans) (AIDS Orphans)

Again – thank you for your support and encouragement during the last couple of months. Hopefully it’s all plain sailing from now on 🙂

When the Music Strikes a Chord

Blue October ~ The Band.

There is so much information on Justin Furstenfeld, his band Blue October, that I simply will not be able to include it all here. Suffice it to say that it will not take a reader of this page long to see why I believe that this band of musicians is well worth getting to know.

Not only do they produce incredible music with lyrics that are heartfelt and heart-wrenching, but Justin himself is open about his fight against Bi-Polar Disorder, Depression and other related Mental Illnesses, and how he has risen above to conquer the downhill spiralling vaccum that was his life.

Information has been sourced from literally hundreds of sources, please refer to credits and acknowledgements. If you are a music lover, I would urge that you spend a few minutes listening to the message they give out. If you are a person suffering with one or other of the psychological/mental conditions that I will discuss later at length, please find comfort in the knjowledge that you are not alone..

Avaaz on Climate Change ~ Alarm: September 21st : Appeal

Posted in donnette e davis on August 27, 2009 by Donnette E Davis

The latest from Avaaz on Climate Change.

ABOUT AVAAZ is an independent, not-for-profit global campaigning organization that works to ensure that the views and values of the world’s people inform global decision-making. (Avaaz means “voice” in many languages.) Avaaz receives no money from governments or corporations, and is staffed by a global team based in Ottawa, London, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Buenos Aires, and Geneva. Click here to learn more about their largest campaigns. Don’t forget to check out their Facebook and Myspace and Bebo pages! You can also follow Avaaz on Twitter!

On climate, it’s now or never. They have just over 100 days left to reach a new global treaty to avert climate disaster (and unleash a new green economy) — but are nowhere near getting it done.

We have a choice to make: should we pull out all the stops this month to beat climate change?

Avaaz is considering a massive, network-wide push for a “global wake-up call” to world leaders on September 21st. This would be the biggest organizing effort they’ve ever done, aiming at bringing their whole network out (peacefully!) to the streets, ringing alarms, holding massive rallies in major cities, and gathering to send wake-up messages from schools, homes, and public squares. From all these places, we would flood world leaders with phone calls, and the actual sound of these millions of voices would be recorded, condensed and presented to heads of state at the UN climate summit in New York the next day.

If we do this, Avaaz will spend the next 4 weeks almost non-stop on it, and it will take hundreds of thousands of us joining efforts to pull it together — hosting and attending events, reaching out to communities, using all their creativity and dedication. This is an important decision, and we need to make it together. From now until September 21 — should we do it?

The goal of this wake-up call is a big one: to convince the world’s leaders to meet at the final climate talks in Copenhagen this December and sign an ambitious, fair and binding treaty to stop catastrophic climate change.

Talks on the treaty have been building for years. Now, 100 days from Copenhagen, we’re nearing a tipping point
