3 Sleeps to go! Comrades Marathon 2013 Official Magazine, Pictures + A point of correction- Great stuff @ComradesRace
3 sleeps to go and it seems my life revolves around Comrades Marathon. No I am not an athlete, nor do I run – well I did once or twice, 5 km with Aiden and the kids, BUT I am married to one of South Africa’s top Athlete Managers, Craig Fry, and he DOES look after some of Africa’s top elite marathon runners.
Browsing through – okay I did not browse, I scanned from cover to cover – the Comrades Marathon Official Magazine, 2013, which we received today during Comrades Expo in Durban, I was thrilled to bits to see our very own Petros Sosibo on the cover and within the pages of the magazine. The magazine is really one of the finest that I have seen produced for Comrades in the few years that I have been addicted to it.
I very quickly contacted Delaine Cools, Media Manager for Comrades Marathon Association, and asked for permission to scan the pages and blog them. In keeping with her generous and vibrant nature, she said “Sure, doll!” Thanks Delaine, you rock!
So here they are and I have a couple of comments to make at the bottom, which really isn’t anything to do with anything by the CMA, but IS incorrect information and I thought I’d put the record straight.
Here is the cover featuring our Petros Sosibo, running in age category 40+ and last year’s 9th position gold finisher – this year running for Bonitas, behind our Claude Moshiywa (Nedbank) who after the disqualification of F1 Bluff Meats’ 7th position (for banned substances) had both dropped from 10th and 9th respectively.
Our beloved Stephen Muzhingi, (winner 2009, 2010 and 2011) came in at a respectable 6th position, after a harrowing ordeal the previous day and throughout the evening, seeing him going straight to the starting line from the hospital where his wife was very ill. Stephen is running in the colours of Toyota SA Athletics Club, backed by major sponsors Adidas and FedGroup.
It is unfortunate that Nedbank Running Club Manager, Nick Bester, himself a Comrades legend, erroneously stated that Claude Moshiywa (A firm South African favorite for Comrades 2013 up run) is employed full time by ABSA. On a point of correction, Claude is actually employed full time by FNB. This has not hampered his being the recipient of four gold medals, and achieving 3rd position in the 2011 uprun.
