The Witness / Maritzburg City Marathon & Community Chest invites you to be part the Flame lighting ceremony on Thursday 20th February 2014 at 17:00. This special ceremony is to celebrate and be part of lighting the official Marathon Flame.

The Flame is the official symbol of the Association of Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and is lit at the Tomb of the Marathon Warriors at which the marathon distance was launched for the first modern Olympics in 1896. T

his is the Third Year the flame will arrive in South Africa and be lit by the Mayor of Pietermaritzburg.

All citizens of our City Pietermaritzburg must enjoy this opportunity and share in the history of the marathon. The Martizburg Marathon will be held on Sunday 23rd February 2014. (entries forms closes on the 6th Feb)

To show your support buy a candle for R5 from Community Chest and make your way to the Carbineers Drill Hall (Directions – From Bulwer street turn left into Braide Street pass the Shell Garage and take first right turn into the Drill Hall)

Together lets light up the city and welcome the Flame.

All proceeds from the Candle Sales will be for the benefit of 76 Charities supported by Community Chest.

The Chest is grateful to Maritzburg Marathon, Willowton Group, The Candle Dipping Shop, Inspect A Pest, CPW Printers, Vuma 103 FM to make this “Sale of Candles” possible.
