Homeschooling is becoming a more popular choice for a number of reasons for families around the world. However much is still unkown about curriculum, socialisation, parenting, how to cope with running a home, looking after a family and homeschooling your children. And then disaster strikes, and perhaps the home becomes a single parent home. How does a single parent cope? How to avoid and/or identify areas that could become areas of concern? How can we do it all and still be great parents? How do we recognise that our child may have a learning difficulty or may be stronger in some aspects (subjects) than others? What curriculum, if any, do we choose to homeschool our child/children? Do we unschool or adopt another approach?

The books on this page aim to answer all those questions and more, also relating to general queries and questions as parents we will often ask ourselves.

Within this page you will also find absolutely fantastic resources that can be used as “alone” curriculum or as an addition to curriculum, or can be adapted to lapbooking, notebooking or whichever method of education you have elected.

What I can say is that scrolling through the pages you are bound to find something of value that you can make use of if not in your own home, classroom or homeschool, then you will know of someone who will find the information useful.

When I started St Aiden’s Homeschool some years ago it was with the intention of homeschooling my chldren after having NOT found a suitable curriculum. We are not spoiled for choice and the prices are astronimical. Added to the fact that I am a single parent, working full time at law (at that stage I was), homeschooling my kids and hosting and maintaining a website it seemed a waste not to share the resources we so loving researched, created and nurtured to the extent that they became eBooks. Not just printable worksheets – complete ebooks, unit studies with an immense amount of input and research into each one.

We decided to share these resources with many other families that we knew did not have the resources to pay for the ridiculously priced curriculum on offer in our country, particularly if one considers the poor quality that was on offer. It worked like a dream. Many thousands of families in South Africa now use our free ebooks as part of their daily homeschooling lives, and many parents have been inspired to undertake the same journey and start developing their own material which they willingly share.

While I also write books exclusively for a publisher and also for digital download now, my website is first and foremost in my mind and I keep it updated with fresh content constantly.

I hope that you will make use of a few of the tens of thousands of free resources we have available for teachers/homeschoolers/professionals/students/parents, and as you get to know St Aiden’s Homeschool, you will see that we stop not only at learning to read and write. We go as far as College. And we will continue to grow and continue to provide free educational material to those who otherwise would not have the opportunity of obtaining same.

Collectively they provide a number of years’ curriculum in a fun, informative way that encourages children to want to learn more. Who, What and Where is St Aiden’s Homeschool?

 

St Aiden’s Homeschool was born a number of years ago out of a desperate need to provide quality and affordable education to the masses of people in South Africa (And Africa) who could no longer afford to pay the ridiculous school fees required to enrol and keep your child in a safety-compromised environment, a classroom with 50 odd children of different ages and cultures, in a school of around 1000 students where often the traditional and long-time educators have not moved with the times.

Since becoming legal in 1996 homeschooling has taken off in South Africa and has spread throughout Africa now enabling students and families previously unable, to now obtain quality educational material for free or nearly free.

One such website that caters for homeschooling families, teachers, educators, students and caregivers is St Aiden’s Homeschool.

Introducing Donnette E Davis

Having some 30000 plus pages and new additions daily St Aiden’s Homeschool is a massive online organisation hosted, maintained and run by one person. Donnette E Davis is a single mother of 6 and a veteran homeschooler, turner webby, turned author/publisher turned SMM Specialist – but still maintaining a strong and commanding presence in each of the above categories. Books are researched and compiled and made available for free download from the website. Books authored particularly for sale purposes are exclusive to Currclick.com. Not only does St Aiden’s Offer the one of the largest independent libraries of free resources, but in all fairness to homeschoolers around the globe, provides links and information on global homeschool curriculum, requirements, support etc.

Amongst some of the hundreds and thousands of free resources are free curriculum, free educational ebooks on every single subject, including social studies that are taught in South African schools and rapidly we are filling up our pages with quality international social studies. The units we supply are wide and varied and include lesson plans, activities, curricula, teacher guides, student guides, lap books, scrapbooks, file folders, ebooks, social studies, seasonal and thematic units (international). A huge focus is of course on South Africa, African wildlife and conservation, with the UK, USA and Ireland also maintaining a high presence with printable activities within the website.

Preschool education packs, elementary and senior-primary school age education packs are available in almost every single section, as well as educational games, puzzles, dictionaries, vast literature resources, comrehension literature unit studies, alphabet activities, teaching your child to read, write, draw and of course a complete section on your Child Health and ADD, ADHD, and learning difficulties. A large focus is on the development of fine and gross motor skills and related activities.

This is a brief Biography of Daniel O Connell who has played a massive role in Irish history. Included in this book are images of him and a statue, together with a descriptive timeline. Included for the benefit of Irish Heritage Month which we celebrate on our Educator’s Calendar for the duration of the month of March [and for me every day of the year 🙂 ]

Just a note that I have a load of free printable Christmas activities to keep your little ones occupied (and mum’s sane) during this festive season that won’t yet be found on my main St Aiden’s website as yet – I tend to spread my resources lolol…

Please feel free to download download download!!! Keep the kids busy entertained and creative!!!  They will absolutely adore making gifts for Mum and Dad, Granny and Grandpa…

Once again Christmas is almost upon us. We spare a thought and prayer for those millions of
families in Africa and around the world that will not be able to celebrate Christmas with presents,
glorious food and decorations, and whose children who will not be scrambling first thing Christmas
morning to see what Santa has brought them. If each one of us in South Africa could make one
other person’s Christmas special and meaningful, be they in Africa or elsewhere, imagine the
happiness and joy that can be spread. That would be giving in the true spirit of Christmas. The local
newspapers in every city in South Africa hold details of donation and collection points for less
fortunate families. A visit to an orphanage or hospice would be a fantastic way of sharing Christmas
with others. Please take a few minutes of your day to make a small donation, that will make a
